Parent Area Attention Deficit Disorder
Most children between the age of 12 and 14 are treated at Provo Canyon School for ADD/ADHD, expanded as, Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Let us look at more ADD/ADHD facts:
- According to estimates, about 2 million children or 3% to 5% of the children in the US have ADHD.
- An ADD/ADHD person has difficulty in recalling images, or in remembering anything they were concentrating on. They have to make efforts in listening to any conversations.
The symptoms of children with ADD / ADHD may differ. Some may be restless and others may be not so active. Some may have problems with attentiveness, with other s may not. Here are the three ADD / ADHD subtypes:
- Largely inattentive.
- Largely hyperactive and acting on impulse.
- A combination of both inattentiveness and hyper activeness.
It is normal for any person to be restless, absent-minded or inattentive. Only in ADD /ADHD cases, these signs occur more regularly.
Inattention symptoms
Persons with ADD inattentive symptoms find it difficult to concentrate on a single thing for any period of time. They may move from one subject to another without accomplishing anything. At the same time, they may concentrate on activities that they find very enjoyable. Such people may have problems in learning new things. A few inattention symptoms to look out for are:
- Ignorant of details, often makes careless errors.
- Inattentiveness despite being addressed directly.
- Trouble in task completion and in understanding instructions.
- Problems of distraction, absent-mindedness, confusion, that occurs often in the person.
Hyperactivity symptoms
ADHD symptoms in people are mostly of acute restlessness. Sitting still at one place seems difficult for them. They are never resting and try doing several activities at once:
Some symptoms of hyperactivity are:
- Uneasiness and nervousness.
- Difficulty in being still at one place.
- Always moving- running, walking and talking continuously.
- Difficulty in performing deskbound activities.
- Taking continuously and answering queries before the question has been completely asked.
- Noticeable difficulties in waiting, often disrupting or interrupting others.
Since hyperactivity and inattentiveness are expected in younger children, it is in the spontaneous reactions that you may notice ADD/ADHD symptoms in little children. By the age of five or four, ADD / ADHD affected children may display behavior displays in impulses, hyperactivity and inattentiveness. |
